A wonderful wordpress blog http://romancingthebee.com/2012/05/31/honey-bees-love-russian-sage/ posted this yesterday- easy, lovely and doable.
“If you want to plant a lovely perennial that bees clearly love, try Russian Sage (Perovskia atriplicifolia). It is a beautiful, easy care addition to the cottage garden, and you’ll be amazed at how the bees flock to it.”
Anything we can do to help honeybees is good. M y picture is not a honeybee but what an acrobat.

I love bees, and I agree we can do a lot to help bees by growing flowers they will find useful.

This is a wonderful post, indeed a wonderful blog! Great comments here too. I also leave dandelions for a bit before mowing in the early spring because they arrive before most other blooms. Also, I wouldn’t dream of using chemicals in my gardening… I love bees and birds far too much to risk their health. You made me chuckle about the wine though… We’ll just enjoy their bright yellow happy faces 🙂 Cheers, Gina

Thank you for the kind words. Bees still frighten me a little but honey and pollination are so good.

I love bees and have russian sage in my garden — that does work! I do worry about the health of bees, thanks for posting this.
Also, wanted to let you know that I nominated you for the lovely blog award yesterday. You don’t need to do anything with it, unless you’re inspired to. Thank you for the award, it is always nice to be supported in this quest. I don’t participate in the passing on process but am grateful.

your title reminds me that the radio station I listened to as a kid was WBBZ. Buzz! I’m stuck on Venus right now did you know that there are bee hives carved into the alters for Aprtodite (Venus)? Beautiful and stimulating post thanks.

Glad to know of the Buzz connection. I did look a little at the history and was surprised how revered they were even 2000bc. Do you have your own telescope?

It’s why I leave the dandelions in bloom as long as I can before mowing – they attract so many bees and provide nectar for them.

I love the color of dandelions best. I made dandelion wine one year- it was awful so now I just appreciate their sunny face.
