Dancing is and was something I love doing. Perhaps it is the flying in the air feeling. Jazz and tap when I was young was fun. I put thumbtacks in the bottom of my shoes so I could tap in the halls while changing classes until I got caught. They were a danger apparently. Then ballet is where I first learned the airborne feeling of doing jumps and the grace and flow of movement. I did ballet a for 5 years then stopped in high school. In college I found modern and interpretive dance. It opened a whole new area of expression for me. Interpreting and building on the movement of a partner or being part of an ensemble group was so interesting. There was nothing we could not say nor any story we could not tell. Years later I played Titania in Midsummer Nights Dream where Oberon and Titania did a series of dances involving lifts requiring real trust. Someone asked if I had had an affair with my Oberon and my reply was “I did not need to, I had danced with him”.

A nice writing exercise. I always wanted to be a dancer but never managed it somehow. I did make my husband take Ballroom dancing lessons early in our relationship way before Dancing With The Stars made it popular. I loved it. He hated it. It didn’t last. One of my life’s big regrets.

Beautiful! I love the ending, especially. And Tharp’s quote is perfect; I think that’s what I try to do with writing–create tiny worlds where things are done justly and humanely.

You always glide so gracefully and emanate that grace no matter what you do.
