Sweet Memory

We saw the movie The Iron Lady last night. Meryl Streep was amazing.  Margaret Thatcher was one of my role models for how to be a strong woman and a person of conviction that stands her ground and births change. The choice of showing her in older senile years remembering her life in flashback seemed demeaning. And yet- we might all get there someday.

So this poem …..Memory  by Thomas B. Aldrich  (from my Father’s collected poem book)
My mind lets go a thousand thing, Like dates of wars and deaths of kings,
And yet recalls the very hour- ‘Twas noon by yonder village tower,
And on the last blue noon in May- The wind came briskly up this way,
Crisping the brook beside the road; Then, pausing here, set down its load
Of pine-scents, and shook listlessly Two petals from that wild-rose

The picture is painted on the side of the El Chapala restaurant in Asheville.
