Wild Geese

A poem today to celebrate the call of the wild in my heart. The V’s of geese are flying north again.
This poem is called Wild Geese by Mary Oliver.

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine,
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the praries and the deep trees,
the mountains and the river.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting-
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

by Mary Oliver from the collection {Risking Everything}  With a thank you to Velvetmountains for teaching me how to single space.

    1. I looked at your blog (of the wedding video)- laughed- anytime I can help is good. My Mom did not embrace the concept of personal limits, I remember clearly the first time (first of many) I told her it was none of her business. It wasn’t pretty but in 10 yrs she almost got the concept- still knowing I was unreasonable.
